You’ve been cat-and-mouse for months. You’ve done all your homework. You’ve called the absolute new puppy for your home. You acquire a collar, a leash, a bag of aliment that the puppy has been eating. You’ve even taken a day off from plan so you can go get the puppy and accompany him home. He has a bed and toys cat-and-mouse for him at home. You’ve anticipation of everything, right? Appropriate up until the moment one of your kids asks, <Won’t Rex just adulation the new puppy?> Oh, no. What about the dog you already have? What about that sweet, admired old guy at home who has been the center most of the family’s absorption for years? How is he traveling to feel about administration his home with a new puppy? Did you discount to ask him about bringing a new puppy home? How is he traveling to react? It looks like you’re able-bodied on your way to accepting to apprentice how to associate your new puppy and your old dog. But, don’t anguish too much. It’s not that harder and you can all get through the action with a little effort.

The a lot of important affair is to ensure the assurance of all anxious you, your ancestors the puppy and the earlier dog. Accomplish assertive that the puppy will be safe and that the earlier dog cannot abuse him. It’s a acceptable abstraction to abode the new puppy (or new dog) in a pet carrier or crate that will accumulate him from advancing into concrete acquaintance with the earlier dog at first. This way they can still see, that appears to smell and apprehend anniversary added after anyone accepting hurt. They can get acclimated to anniversary added in a safe situation. If you’re ambidextrous with a beyond puppy or an developed dog you may allegation to bridle both animals. It helps to acquire an abettor on duke (a ancestors affiliate is fine).

Remember that rewards go a continued way against allowance to affluence these situations. You will basically ambition to accolade your earlier dog if he shows accepting of the new puppy (or dog). After the two dogs acquire calmed down a little accord anniversary of them a little reward, such as a chaw of abrade or some added admired treat. Accord the puppy and the earlier dog lots of acclaim and amore for not barking or assuming assailment against anniversary other. (It will be appetizing to appearance added amore and acclaim to the puppy but you should be accurate not to discount the earlier dog. You don’t ambition to do things that will accomplish the earlier dog jealous.) Accumulate in apperception that you are aggravating to appearance your earlier and the puppy that you acquire the added dog’s attendance as allotment of the ancestors and that you apprehend them to acquire the added dog, too. You will apparently allegation to echo this action several times until both dogs become acclimatized to anniversary added and any abhorrence has subsided. It’s archetypal for the earlier dog to affectation added assailment than the puppy. The puppy may be actual submissive. This is normal. Some puppies may be active and something of a nuisance to earlier dogs. Earlier dogs will put up with this behavior to capricious degrees. Some earlier dogs are added advanced than others but a lot of will acknowledge and set banned at some point.

The next footfall in this action is to acquiesce the animals a afterpiece analysis of anniversary other. For this footfall you allegation an abettor to advice ascendancy one of the animals. Your abettor should bridle the earlier dog and authority him durably on a actual abbreviate leash. Accomplish abiding your abettor has ascendancy of the dog. You will afresh accessible the pet carrier or crate and accompany out the new puppy or dog. Or, both animals may be on leashes. At this point you will accompany the two dogs abutting together. The dogs will a lot of acceptable move against anniversary added to detect and meet. They will analyze the added beastly so you should be abiding your abettor is captivation the dog tightly. You should be accurate not to let the new pet agitation or escape your hold. You can gradually accompany the two dogs afterpiece calm and acquiesce them to calmly meet. One or both dogs may bark in warning. Watch the dogs anxiously and be able to abstracted them if necessary. You can try afresh after if allegation be. Dogs in a home about authorize a pecking adjustment – they will authorize who is boss. Your earlier dog has advantage and will apparently bound let the puppy or added dog apperceive that he is in allegation in the home. The added dog will apparently acquire a accessory role for the time being. Dogs are acceptable at alive at a lot of squabbles on their own after beastly interference.

The endure affair to accumulate in apperception is that not anybody gets along. Not with humans and not with dogs. There will be canicule if your dogs may not get along. They may acquire disagreements about a toy or about a abode to beddy-bye or about food. These are usually bound bound and your dogs will be accompany again. In added cases there are some dogs that don’t like anniversary added and may never like anniversary other. However, with backbone and some acceptable administration on your part, you can abstain fights and accumulate your abode peaceful a lot of of the time. You may acquire to alarm a break sometimes, or forward the dogs to a abstracted allowance to air-conditioned off, but things will calm down.

If you’re cerebration of accepting a new puppy or developed dog you can advice acclimate your earlier dog for the advancing change and accomplish things easier for him. Start adorning your earlier dog more. Yield him to a dog esplanade or a pet superstore that allows dogs to visit. Let him activate to accommodated some new dogs so it’s easier on him if he meets a new dog in his home. You may even be able to align for him to accommodated your new puppy on aloof ground, such as at a dog park, area your earlier dog feels beneath territorial. You may even ambition to accede accepting a dog affair at your home area several humans accompany their dogs to your house. (Though this may be demanding for some dogs, added dogs may adore accepting dog guests in their home. It helps to apperceive your dog able-bodied and how he may react.) All of these things will advice your dog acclimatize if he meets your new puppy.

Do yield your earlier dog’s activity into application if you anticipate about bringing a new puppy or developed dog into your home. Many dogs acceptable a puppy or new dog into the household, but for dogs who acquire been -only dogs- their absolute lives it can be somewhat aggressive to acquire a new dog in the household. They feel threatened both by accepting their active amplitude invaded and by activity anxious of your time and absorption and love. Aggregate they apperceive is accepting challenged and angry upside down. Accord them time to acclimatize to a new puppy or dog and advice them acclimate by introducing the new beastly slowly. Accomplish abiding you abide to appearance your earlier dog affluence of adulation and amore and it will advice him acquire the newcomer.

1. What is heat?

Heat is more properly called the estrous cycle. During this cycle, female dogs can get pregnant. It is equivalent to human menstruation.

2. What are the symptoms?

Women bleed from the vagina sometimes with swelling of the vulva and increased urination. Do not expect the bleeding similar to a human female.

For small dogs, that’s usually not much and you may need to pay close attention to your puppy to identify her first cycle. Apart from the blood, the most marked symptom can
Male dogs hanging around your house.

3. When a dog come into heat?

The average female dog has her first cycle of six months. Some dogs start earlier and dogs later, even as late as 14 months.

If you have a new female puppy, you should see your letter and when she has her first cycle. If she is 14 months old and still hasn’t't been in the heat, you should take her to a vet.

4. How long does heat cycle last?

The average is three weeks or 21 days. In some dogs, lasting only two weeks, while others go four weeks.

5. How often should be in heat?

Most dogs have regular cycles usually every six to eight months. It’s typical to be in heat twice a year.

6. When can you get pregnant?

You can get pregnant only when in the heat. Some breeders
test for progesterone levels to identify the most fertile days, but the rule of thumb is that the most fertile days are 11-15 of her cycle.

Note – when in heat, the average dog permit any man
dog to mount. Few women, however, accept a male when
that are not in heat.

7. Can you get pregnant your first cycle?

Yes, however, responsible breeders generally do not raise a dog than the first. First, you have to do genetic testing and some serious problems such as hip conditions do not appear until the dog is about 2 years old.

8. Can I take her on walks during this cycle?

Yes, with care. She has no problem with exercise, but she is a walking magnet for male dogs.

Even the best trained and behaved dog will succumb to hormones. You can not trust her off a leash or out of control. Never let her outside by herself, even in a fenced yard if there is any possibility of male dogs nearby.

For the rides, if males in his neighborhood, is a good idea to bring your dog in the car and drive to a remote area. Down the road and not drive home. Otherwise, the smell of her urine and vaginal secretions that open the way home.

9. When you can have her spayed?

The answer to that question has changed continuously over the
25-years I’ve been in the business of dog. People used to be told that your dog go through at least one cycle or let them have one litter.

Today, veterinarians are doing a lot earlier. Some veterinarians sterilize after 6 weeks of age! Talk to your veterinarian about your dog’s veterinarian and preferences. The state of veterinary medicine has also been greatly improved over the past 25 years.

10. If I do not have operated, you go through menopause.

No. Her fertility may decline but she did not go through menopause comparable to a human being. Do not lose your ability to get pregnant, even in his last year so if you do not want her to have (or more) litters, she must be sterilized.

Vomiting in dogs is a very common phenomenon and may arise from a variety of causes, from simple gastritis to complex diseases of body systems. Not only is it very unpleasant for the dog and the owner, but also constitutes a challenge for the veterinarian. This article explains the multiple causes of vomiting in dogs, including adverse reactions to foods, and the range of treatment options available.

What is the vomit?

Vomiting is the expulsion of food, liquids or residues of the stomach or small intestine due to coordinated movements of the gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal and nervous. It is important to differentiate it from regurgitation, which is a passive process rather than a coordinated effort to vomit.

Regurgitation is a sign of disease in the esophagus, such as obstructions (foreign bodies, such as a stick, bone or toy, or a stricture), inflammation of esophagitis (esophageal) or megaesophagus (dilatation of the esophagus due to weakening the smooth muscle). The main difference between regurgitation and vomiting is that regurgitation is effortless, while vomiting is accompanied by strong abdominal contractions.

How can I tell vomiting and regurgitation apart?

Sometimes this is not easy to do. Overall, if it occurs immediately after eating, is more likely that regurgitation (although vomiting can occur then). If the content of the ejecta appears to be completely digested food also supports regurgitation. If the presence of bile can be confirmed however, is more likely to be vomiting.

The causes of vomiting

The most common causes are vomiting related to diet, either through dietary transgressions (eg, overeating, eating too rich or spoiled food) which causes acute (sudden), vomiting or adverse reactions to food (food allergies) which can cause chronic (long-term and intermittent) vomiting.

However, there are a number of other cases arising from either the gastrointestinal system itself (stomach and small intestine) or secondary to disease elsewhere in the body (eg liver or kidney). In the stomach, possible causes include:

1. Gastritis (inflammatory)

2. Stomach ulcers

3. Stomach cancer

4. Obstruction (foreign bodies, telescoping of intestine)

5. Hiatal hernia (herniation of the stomach through the diaphragm)

Possible causes in the gut include:

1. Infectious diseases (eg parvovirus)

2. Worms

3. Inflammatory bowel disease

4. Bowel Cancer

Secondary causes of vomiting that are due to disease in other parts of the body include:

1. Pancreatitis (infection or inflammation of the pancreas)

2. Peritonitis (infection of the abdominal cavity)

3. Hepatitis (liver inflammation)

4. Renal failure

5. Pyometra (infection of the uterus)

6. Hormonal deficiencies or excesses (eg, Addison’s disease, diabetes mellitus, sepsis, an imbalance of calcium)

Other potential causes that do not fit into the above categories are drug reactions (eg digoxin, chemotherapy drugs, NSAIDs) and neurological disorders.

The treatment of vomiting

Vomiting is a symptom not a disease itself. Whether or not the proper treatment depends on individual circumstances. If the dog is only vomiting occasionally, is bright and otherwise normal on examination, treatment probably not necessary. Some dogs with sensitive digestive systems to vomit once or twice a month, regardless of any treatment, and if otherwise, and this should be ignored.

For acute vomiting cases, the first step should always be a starving dog for 24 hours (while keeping plenty of water available ad lib). After the period of starvation, the dog must offer small portions of a very soft food such as boiled chicken and rice for a few days. Meals should be fed as smaller portions several times a day instead of a larger meal.

Although treatment of symptoms often improve performance and patient comfort, there is no substitute for establishing a correct diagnosis of the underlying cause, and certain medications can be harmful if given blindly (for example, giving metoclopramide to dog with a gastric or intestinal obstruction). Indeed, cases of acute and severe vomiting require immediate treatment, because dogs can quickly become dehydrated, develop electrolyte imbalances and aspiration pneumonia otherwise.

Managing dog vomiting

There are 2 goals when dealing with a dog vomit:

1. Identify the underlying cause

2. Stop the vomiting in a safe and effective

In many cases, anti-emetic therapy (the technical term for vomiting is vomiting, and therefore the drugs used to treat it are called antiemetics against) is promoted immediately, while the cause is being established.

A veterinarian will start by taking a thorough history, focusing especially on the normal diet, the newer drugs, vaccination status and description of symptoms. He or she should first make sure the dog is really the vomit and not regurgitating, which has a completely different set of underlying causes. It is also important to get a graphic description of the ejecta, whether it contained bile, fresh blood or what looks like coffee granules (partly digested blood).

The next step is a thorough clinical examination, including the abdomen carefully, take a rectal temperature of dogs and assessing the hydration status. Once completed, a veterinarian, have a slightly reduced the list of differential diagnoses in mind. If the dog is not dehydrated, brilliant in its conduct, and both vital parameters and feeling the abdomen were normal, the veterinarian often (rightly) make a presumptive diagnosis of gastritis, gastroenteritis, or if diarrhea is present also, and prescribe antibiotics to combat bacterial infection likely. The owner is likely to be sent home with instructions to starve the dog for 24 hours and give bland food for a few days, along with antibiotics. The owner has been instructed to closely monitor the dog, and return immediately for signs of deterioration, or 2 to 3 days later for a routine checkup.

If there are any results in the history or physical examination that trigger concern, then further tests are needed. The first is usually blood tests for hematology and biochemistry profiles. Urine and feces can also be analyzed, the latter for either nasty bacteria or parasites. Additional laboratory tests may be necessary in certain circumstances, such as evidence of bile acid stimulation, if suspected liver dysfunction, or an ACTH stimulation test to look for adrenal pathology.

The next stage of the work involves the image. The most useful is abdominal radiography (radiography), but ultrasound and endoscopy can also be very important. Radiography and endoscopy both have to be performed under general anesthesia, while ultrasonography can be made conscious. If the image does not reveal the underlying cause then biopsies can be taken, either endoscopically guided or via exploratory surgery. Histopathological samples (the study of tissue microscopically) can give vital clues about the cause, particularly the differentiation between inflammation and cancer.

The final diagnostic option is the therapeutic trial. If the dog gets better in the prescribed medication, then it must have been some kind of disease which responds to that drug. For this reason, nutritional supplements, antibiotics or a diet trial of exclusion can be chosen.

The drugs used in the treatment of vomiting

Stomach protectors 1. And antacids

These drugs are useful when a suspected stomach ulcer. Examples include sucralfate (acts like a band aid over the ulcer), H2 antagonists (reduce acid production) and omeprazole (also reduces acidity).

2. Metoclopramide

The drug blocks a neurotransmitter in the brain called dopamine, which prevents the activation of the vomiting center in the brain (known as the chemoreceptor trigger zone). It is only partially effective in doing this however, and has the additional effect of increasing intestinal motility. This means that you should never give to dogs that might have a stomach or intestinal obstruction. It can also cause mental changes such as hyperactivity and disorientation.

Phenothiazines 3. (Eg Acepromazine, ACP)

These are effective in blocking dopamine receptors mentioned above, and other receptors involved in the vomiting reflex. Metoclopramide are often used when it has failed, but also have undesirable side effects such as low blood pressure and sedation.

4. Antihistamines

Histamine receptors are also present in the chemoreceptor trigger zone, part of the brain that controls the vomiting reflex. Antihistamines are effective in blocking the vomiting that is due to motion sickness, but are little use against other causes.

5. Domperidone

Domperidone has a similar action to metoclopramide, blocking dopamine receptors and secondarily blocks serotonin receptors, but has the effect of promoting metoclopramide. However, side effects include enlargement of the vulva and the possible effects on fertility.

6. Maropitant

This is a new drug that is a neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptor antagonist. It can be administered orally or by injection, and is very effective to stop the vomiting of work, both in the vomiting center in the brain and stomach. It is considered so effective at stopping vomiting that veterinarians must be careful to properly investigate the underlying causes potentially dangerous and could be masked fatally by this drug.

Getting professional advice or
Canine rivalry is potentially dangerous course. Dog or human family members can be seriously affected by fighting. Since the resolution rivalry problems require managing the dogs a bit complex social behavior is often necessary for owners to obtain assistance from a professional animal behaviorist. Certified trained animal behavior to observe, interpret and modify animal behavior.

Why conflict
Conflicts between household dogs develop a variety of reasons. Conflicts can occur if:
• A new animal was introduced for household use.
• An animal is dead or live a longer life in the house.
• A resident animal is reintroduced after an absence.
• A small dog of maturity, where social conflicts, usually between 10 months and 2 years, and challenges established higher-ranking dog.
• The senior age or dog becomes ill and cannot maintain his higher status.
Understanding the status-seeking behavior and social structure
Items for dogs in the hierarchy is determined by the outcome of their interaction. Results of this complex and dynamic will depend on the dogs themselves, regardless of your preferences. Any attempt by you to intervene in May would conflict increased.

How the dominant type can be established:
Dogs usually determine their social position through a series of behaviors that include body postures and sounds that do not cause damage. Examples of this type of behavior is a dog “standing over” one another by placing his feet and neck, the shoulders of one another, mounting, lip licking or rolling on their backs. Some dogs may take toys from other dogs that insist on being petted first or to exercise control over other resources. But because of past experiences, inadequate socialization or genetic predisposition, some dogs may escalate these displays of aggression with a short notice.

Social status and social structure:
Do not try to influence or define the dogs investments by treating them equally or by preventing a senior dog to assert its position on a second dog. Social hierarchy of dogs are dynamic and complex, so even trying to “support the dominant dog” in May against you. Dogs should be allowed to establish control over resources such as toys and preferred accommodation places themselves. Whenever possible, the in interaction with other dogs must be imposed. But most importantly, establish yourself at the top of the hierarchy. Practicing “Nothing in life is free” is a simple way of confrontation, and not to establish leadership by taking ultimate control of all resources, dogs are useful. If your leader is ready, it will help to ensure their dogs places lower in the social structure more peaceful.
Pause a match:
If you need to break a fight, do so by paying the dogs with water or make a loud noise to try to stop them. Never attempt to break a dog fight, seizing dogs by their collars or take a part of you together. Touching dogs while fighting can lead to what is called “redirected aggression”, where a dog can bite you because he thinks you’re a part of the conflict. If you have a fight, you should consult your veterinarian for a reference to a professional animal behaviorist.

What you can sometimes do
• If the dogs involved are intact males or females, Spay or neuter dogs.
• Make sure everyone in your house even the children are on top of the hierarchy by practicing nothing in life is free.
Establish reasonable rules and apply them consistently. This helps all dogs feel more secure and also reinforces your leadership role. With a professional animal behaviorist, encourage and reinforce non-aggressive behavior using conditioning techniques to counter and desensitization. These procedures must be designed and tailored specifically to meet the needs of each case and require professional care at home. Repression will not solve the problem, and can actually worse. You should be aware that if you answer this question incorrectly, you may increase the problem and cause harm to you and your dog.
